Cost of nonconformities

Cost of nonconformities

« If you think Training is Expensive... think about the cost of ignorance! » (Derek Bok)

One of the arguments against training is its cost. More than often it is a myth and when it comes to hazardous materials, you only need to consider the financial, legal but most importantly the human cost of a single incident to be convinced of the opposite.

With dangerous goods, there is clear and present danger. Aside from the injuries sustained by your employees and trauma to their families, you must consider the following sanctions:

  • Threats to business continuity
  • Sanction of up to $2,000,000 in fines and 2 years in jail
  • Work stoppage

To all this, you can add loss of productivity, material damages and the legal and criminal charges that may be brought against company officials who may be held responsible in the case of negligence particularly if the training was inadequate.

What training should you choose?

Professional personalized training may, at first, look as an expensive option. But when you weigh in the advantages, it is often cheaper and more efficient. It has the following advantages:

  • It is done by a trained who is has spent years honing his skills and knowledge
  • It provides the employer with a product that is customized to his specific needs and concerns
  • It is more realistic as it is done in the workplace using specific and pertinent examples in a real life situation
  • It is actually less expensive to public classes if the actual costs are factored in (loss of time and productivity, cost of travelling etc.).
